Moon’s Zen Moment…
My mother brought my attention to this pic of me when I was like 3 years old at a Buddhist temple in Korea (she thinks it’s adorable, and I think I’m chubby). Although my parents were atheists, so we didn’t actively grow up with any religion, my grandmother always took us to the temples. Because I was so young, I don’t have much memories of visiting these remarkable sacred venues, which makes me sad.
In having found my spirituality as an adult, I can really appreciate this picture now: the beauty of the temples with the magnificent mountain landscape and Korean women in their “hanbok” costumes walking around. With the temple so grand in the background and me so small in the forefront, it also reminds me of how insignificant we are in the big scheme of the Universe.
Spirituality has been my savior and grace, so I am grateful that my grandmother had the wisdom to bring me to such an awe-inspiring spiritual place at my young age even if I was not fully aware of it at the time. This picture makes me feel humble in God’s magnificent ways.
Thank you, grandmother, for giving me this wonderful experience as a child.
Love these chants by Tibetan Buddhist monks (moving and inspiring):
