My Zen Moment…
I woke up recently feeling depressed for no reason (perhaps it was a bad dream), so I felt lethargic the whole day. Around 3:00 PM, as I had not eaten breakfast or lunch and had no will to cook, I walked over to my local Chinese restaurant and ordered some rice and stir fry veggies. Still feeling low, I didn’t know what I could do to pick myself up. As most Chinese restaurants do, at the end of the meal, I received my fortune cookie. When I cracked my fortune, it provided me with a little reminder: “Your happiness is intertwined with your outlook on life.”
As the Universe always takes care of your needs, it was exactly the message I needed at the right time. So, I started to think about all of the things in my life I am grateful for, and as I made that list in my head, from something as small as I am thankful to just have a bowl of rice, I started to feel better, noticing my depression beginning to lift.
Sometimes, it just takes a small reminder, as a fortune cookie, to help you through life’s valleys. Although I am passionate about promoting this message that our happiness is dependent on our outlook on life, I needed the reminder myself that day.
Thank you, Universe, for reminding me that our happiness is our own choice and making, and the fortune cookie’s simple message truly brought me to my Zen Moment….
