Moon’s Zen Moment…
Because my family immigrated to America when I was only 4, I never knew my maternal grandmother, but my mom told me many stories about her. She helped raise us because my mother always worked, running a beauty salon in Korea, and she liked to wear the Korean robe “hanbok,” as you can see in this picture (flanked by my mother on the left and my oldest aunt on the right).
My mother told me that grandma was so worried about us when we moved to America because she didn’t know how my mother was going to single handedly take care of us. I remember when we received word of her stomach cancer while in the US, I wasn’t so emotional because I never knew her.
Now, in looking back, I wish I had known my grandmother because I know my mother came from the most loving family although they were poor. I look at this picture of my grandma and imagine the love she doled on us and how wonderful it would have been to spend more time with her. I look forward to meeting her again in the eternal life…
